Since joining the club in January 2006 - Patrice has nailed down the left back position as his own. He is also vice captain in the absence of Nemanja Vidic. The Frenchman's passion not only for the game but also for his club has made him a renown figure in the dressing room and among his team mates. His pace, dribbling, crossing and determination is the classic example of a modern full-back.

He joined the club from Monaco at the age of 24 where he was captain. His start to life at United wasn't the best, his debut included a shaky away defeat to Manchester City, which had many wondering if he was going to be good enough to hold down a regular place in the starting team.

During the 2006/07 season Evra showed the talent he had, going on to win the Premier League and also being included in the PFA Team of the Year. The left-back berth became his own and, aided by consistency, only eight games were missed during the triumphant 2007/08 season where he won the Champions League and a second Premier League title.

2009/10 was another impressive season for the French International, starting 37 out of 38 league games. This meant he earned yet another place in the Team of the Year after captaining the Reds to Carling Cup glory in February.

Since then he's seen a slump in form and and has been the victim of racial abuse from that buck teeth racist cunt  but last season we saw Patrice of old, which included him getting on the score sheet on 4 occasions.

So far this season Evra has continued on from last season in terms of performances, which no doubt is due to the fact that the club were chasing Leighton Baines from Everton and Fabio Coentrao from Real Madrid during the Summer. But let's hope Pat carries on his performances that he's shown far this Season and show's that at 32, he's still more than capable of being a regular starter.

Asked in the press conference today about "ending his United career with no trophy". Evra saw the tripwire and said "Today is not the time to discuss my future, it's not about my future, it's about UNITED'S future".

I wish a few more players had Patrice's heart and devotion.

He wasn't that bad today. Buttner would have been so much worse. If he even attacks Bayern once, Robben and Lahm will have a field day.

There honestly is no comparison. Evra is bad, Buttner is a Championship player.

How clueless can you be not to see Buttner is the MUCH better player.

Buttner is bad but Evra is on another level. Smoked by every competitor he's come across.

Yet he was still one our most likely attacking threats.

Doesn't say much....

Buttner's strength is his attacking instincts. There's no reason he couldn't replicate this supposed positive aspect.

It is difficult to compare the merits of a player who plays 4 times a season compared to somebody who plays 40. It would be seriously difficult to be as defensively inept as Evra is and has been for years which is why there is no reason Buttner should not be a regular starter.

There's no excuse for him to be first choice starter at this point. I have been saying it for months, left back is the number one priority to be strengthened. Our options at central midfield are nowhere near as out of their depth as Evra is at LB.

Absolute wank. Made Fellaini look half decent today.

I dread the fact that he's going to talk his way into the team against Munich. That's probably the reason why he was subbed off. His mistakes are going to make Vidic and Ferdinand look bad now...

What a goal, though.

He hasn't hit the ball that well and clean in all his career.

Good way to end his United stage in the Champions League, if he's leaving.

Unbelievable goal
