Glad you did. We might need it next season.

We got Barcelona lmao. That domino effect of that fucking handball decision is hilarious.

Rangers should have won the game in the normal time. Even before the Braga red card they were well on top and were for most of the game, but didn't take their opportunities. They actually got worse af

VAR is useless.

Fagioli definitely handballed it and Kean avoided a card for a nasty stomp.

Sevilla have played better overall, but Juve are carving out some chances.

That is a very dodgy penalty decision.

Cuadrado got a lot of the man and wasn't in control with the follow through

Football heritage.

Mourinho's gamble didn't pay off this time. 6th in Serie A with no chance of securing CL football.

Sevilla have added another trophy to the cabinet with an an old squad. Some proper characters in that team though.

Rakitić has had an incredible career. Jesús Navas too.

Telles filled in for Acuña quite well.

Before the champions league expansion, no team had such a monopoly on the 2nd European competition. It is more of a midweek source of commercial revenue than a serious competition these days.

Harsh.

I think it's been really good to watch since around the 15/16 season.

We've had the following finals:

  • Liverpool vs Sevilla
  • Ajax vs United
  • Marseille vs Atlético
  • Chelsea vs Arsenal
  • Sevilla vs Inter
  • Villarreal vs United
  • Frankfurt vs Rangers
  • Sevilla vs Roma

Awarding the winner a CL place has made it a tournament that teams want to win.

Spanish teams have dominated it this century. They respect it, unlike most Italian clubs this century. Juve were in 3 finals in the 90's.

I'm sure it delivers its share of exciting games but it has largely fallen by the wayside with the growing emphasis on champions league and the fight for too four places in the big leagues. They have tried to give it credibility by awarding the winner a cl place and adding teams from the group phase of the champions league. As you say some teams take it more seriously and have found a niche in this competition. Sevilla had never won a European competition before 2005, they've only had a couple of 3rd place finishes in la liga going back 30 years and have obviously never offered much threat in champions league. It should be a worry to uefa and be seen as an existential threat that a team of such stature has been able to accomplish so much in this competition.

Teams emerge over time. Teams disappear over time. That's football.

Deportivo La Coruña were once a top Spanish team. Now they're not.

Sevilla found success in the mid 00's by hiring Monchi as their Sporting Director. He initially joined the club in 2000. He was able to transform their scouting and recruitment process, which lead to them signing some very good players over the past 20+ years. They discover talents. He also developed their youth system. They produce their own players. Jesús Navas is a symbol of the club. An icon.

Their success should be applauded. They did it without significant funding from questionable sources. The rise of Sevilla and Villarreal has been great to witness. Organic success. Untainted.
