Rumours we want more than just casemiro from madrid... Asensio? nice right sided option... - still leaves us without a striker unless we can get Gakpo or Kalajdzic etc in

Nah mate far far too risky.

Career nosedived after Coming to America don't think he's the answer. 😉

I thought he was the best midfielder we've had since Fergie's time anyway, but the more time passes the better he looks.

Yeah, nice of us to beat Brentford to the signing of Eriksen on a free. That Old Trafford pull. What a club.

No doubt we're at panic stations but the media are having a field day. We must have been linked with close to 50 players in the last 72 hours. Probably worth switching off Twitter and letting the club

The only way we land Casemiro is we pay around €80 million and make him one of our highest paid players.

I just can't see him leaving. He's settled in Madrid. He's still a key player for them.

I actually think it's possible.

Both club and the player may want to cash in at this point. They're stacked in midfield and are going to be moving on soon anyway. He will obviously get huge wages, the reported fee is around €50m. Similar situation to Varane except he's even older. They're a well run club that plan ahead - United are a shambles that are desperate.

He will flop.

Now this is a signing that would make sense. He'd be starting in a few weeks.

I hope your right; -

I'd be flabbergasted if it happened!    may not be planning ahead but UTD need to balance short term impact with long term planning - it's the reality of the position we're in

I'd take him in a millisecond if he'll come- hardest working player on the pitch champions league final

€50 million is seen as way too low by some Real journos. They would sell for a crazy fee.

Tchouaméni and Camavinga aren't out and out holding midfielders. He is a specialist. He's probably their most difficult player to replace. Real rotated at the weekend by resting him after The Super Cup final and almost paid the price for it.

Surely Ronaldo and Varane don't paint a good image of United to him.

If he was available, other big clubs would be interested.

All I see (till proved otherwise)  is UTD's desperate PR department pumping out headlines to try pacify fans

"look who we're after"

It won't work - getting a no. of proper credible signings over the line is the only thing that will stop Old Trafford becoming most Toxic place in the UK in coming months

Vardy too? Everyone we're linked with is on the down escalator of their respective careers. How much of this is paper talk (the Athletic, which is rapidly turning into the Sun for example), versus how much is reality is hard to fathom. We are not an attractive destination for players any more, except for the money merchants.

Linked with Pulisic now lmao.

We're just throwing darts at a list of random names. I'll take any alternative to Rashford though.

TBH this is so shambolic and desperate that I do wonder if the Glazers are preparing a sale.

It's Murtough & Arnold. They're too green. It's a repeat of Woodward in 2013.

didn't think they could get any greener/worse than Woodward 2013!    they never seam to learn

Pullisic loan would prob make more sense than buying Ziyech (unless he was available on a loan also)

Neither have set the world on fire;  strengthening squad options without over committing till better targets are willing to come makes sense

Woodward at least had a title winning squad. There was an excuse for a lack of urgency.

I just don't think there's too much money made available. Every other new manager got huge sums to spend. ETH has been hung out to dry despite an ever more desperate situation.

The cash reserves are low.

But we were conducting ourselves like this in 2013 & 2014 as well. Thiago, Fabregas, Bale, Kroos, etc.

We keep hiring people who aren't the best in their field. We needed to hire a top DoF and negotiator. Murtough is a Woodward loyalist. He's lucky that he got promoted when he did. I've always had my doubts.

The main difference being those were all in their prime at that point, so at least the wild goose chase had some logic behind it.

The ages of some of the players we've been linked with are alarming:

  • Casemiro - 30.5
  • Meunier - 31 next month
  • Aubameyamg - 33
  • Sommer 33.5

We've already signed Eriksen who is 30.5

Ronaldo is 37. Heaton is 36. De Gea is 32 soon.

Maguire, Varane & Fred are all 29.

We need to target younger players.

So we cleared about £52m off the wage bill from last year - £1m/week on Pogba, Cavani, Mata, Matic, Telles, and Lingard.

Don't worry though - we're still chucking about £104m (£2m/week!) on:

Cristiano Ronaldo £26,800,000 £515,385

David De Gea £19,500,000 £375,000

Anthony Martial £13,000,000 £250,000

Harry Maguire £9,875,000 £189,904

Luke Shaw £7,800,000 £150,000

Aaron Wan-Bissaka £4,680,000 £90,000

Eric Bailly £4,160,000 £80,000

Mason Greenwood £3,900,000 £75,000

Phil Jones £3,900,000 £75,000

Brandon Williams £3,380,000 £65,000

Scott McTominay £3,120,000 £60,000

Axel Tuanzebe £2,600,000 £50,000

Tahith Chong £1,040,000 £20,000

If there's any transfer budget left, rather than chasing over the hill mercs it might be better spent paying as many of them to fuck off as we can afford.

Would we even make their annual salary back if we sold them? Doubtful.

This has happened for years now, to be honest. The amount of agents using United, to get their client an improved contract at their current club too.

There's definitely been some nonsense links though recently, more than usual, with no truth to them at all.

The media don’t even need to work for it this time round!

UTD’s desperate PR team feeding them! most headlines Re-player trgts Manchester Evening News coming direct from UTD I’d reckon

Have seen links for the above all in the last 24 hours. By reputable sources as well. I’m sure there’s some embellishment but I have no doubt we are at this stage where we’ve found we have money that was reserved for FDJ and have no plan to use it.

The links to Antony starting up again. Talk of a “massive bid” - We’re gonna spend €80m on a guy who’s less accomplished than Memphis was when we signed him because the coach loves him. That coach could be gone in a few months time.

he’d probably have one of the wing spots locked down in no time, also like CHO and Ziyech for what it’s worth

I would take any of the 3 Chelsea players we've been linked with as well, they'd improve us instantly.

My concern is mainly around the fact that they aren't anywhere near enough. I'd say we need a LW, but we really need a ST and DM/CM. Our need for a RB is probably equally important as our need for a LW as well, so unless we were to improve these areas as well I doubt they'll be able to make much of an impact.

I would love Antony but that’s one hell of an ‘apologies for not getting Frenkie’ fee to pay for an eredivisie winger, it would probably mean sancho left, Rashford backup st too

What Utd need and what they will get,has been the case for ages, every window there is reluctantcy to buy with a plan,,everyone knows what is required by the end of the season. ,From signings to the club being sold ,part of ,Ronaldos titbits, chasing a player who had contract problems, knowing that most of your targets are available in the epl, making a narrative of the the type of player the manager will want to buy, most from eridevisie league,it’s just been a window full of claptrap, the glazers are broke, have always been broke, and now the pocket money they made from Ronaldo is at risk, and hopefully they will end up in a mental hospital..I hope Rattcliffe buys a portion and then by technical knockout buys them out.

€80 million is ridiculous for Antony. Even €60 million would be.

Surely it's either him or Casemiro. Not both.

Or is Ratcliffe already bankrolling us?
