Wigan go into administration

Recommended Posts

Another club from the North-West takes a hit. Wigan, not too long ago conquerors of City at Wembley, are facing insolvency and a 12-point deduction, that will relegate them. The new owners, who bought out Whelan, dipped their toes in the water and have concluded that the club is not a viable financial prospect. Of course blame will be placed on Covid, Brexit, and what have you but you have to wonder what they were thinking when they bought the club in the first place, just four months ago.

Yeah, teams outside of London are more vulnerable to this.

Tough for teams in the North-West due to the presence of United, City, Liverpool and even Newcastle.

You'll get a lot of United fans in places like Burnley, Bolton, Blackburn, Wigan, Preston, etc.

There's a lot to make it attractive to buyers for the right price, they've got a good modern stadium for a start. Will need to be a project of a few years and clever investment on the playing front to bring them back to the Championship.

Buyers these days are looking for fast money and buying Wigan won't guarantee that. Maybe the knew owners thought that buying an English team was a licence to print money, as others have done and they failed to do their homework properly.

The EFL are a fucking disgrace.

Fans of all clubs should actually boycott the league for what's happening here. They have owned the club for a few weeks and there was evidence of dodgy loans being taken out by them prior to the takeover - What the fuck is that "fit and proper" test supposed to weed out if not such obvious crooks?

The whole game is gone. If clubs aren't a money laundering operation they're used for state propaganda or United's case a cosy source of profit. The sport is being destroyed by these parasites and the governing bodies are quite happy to go along with it so long as they get rich too.

Mass executions the only answer.

Winning 7-0 against Hull at the moment. It's only half time.

They stay up on GD if they win their final 2 games.
