Turned 41 today. A fan favourite at United due to those 2 goals at Anfield, and rightly so.

We got very unlucky with him. He went on to become a world class player for Atlético and Uruguay. 300+ career goals across multiple continents.

Only 17 goals for United, but some cracking goals in there.

He could have scored more. Maybe 40 from 98, instead of 17.

A truly world class striker on his day. Amazing use of both feet, always the goal on his mind, and he had that near post finish when faking to go to the further post on lock. Amazing.

Saw him score quite a few times at the old San Mames, one being a really good goal in a pretty bad loss for us.

Feliz Cumpleaños Cachavachaaaa

Atlético have had an insane amount of top class strikers one after the other since the 80's.

Hugo Sánchez, Christian Vieri, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Fernando Torres, Sergio Agüero, Diego Forlán, Radamel Falcao, Diego Costa, Antoine Griezmann, Mario Mandžukic, Álvaro Morata.

Not many clubs can rival that. Especially in such quick succession.

I think he could have become a lot better for us if he stayed, especially as we did tactically evolve eventually. He wasn't getting in ahead of peak RVN though, and then we bought Saha, Smith and Rooney within 6 months....

He could have played off Ruud, as he liked to play off a striker. It was more of a cultural thing. English life probably didn't suit him.

Atlético were quite a direct 4-4-2 side like United when he scored 2 goals against Fulham in the 2010 Europa League final win.

The vast majority of South American settle better in Spain, Portugal and Italy.

Agüero is a freak. Seems to have no issue with living a fairly quiet life in Manchester. Cantona is another rarity.
