Under 23 Match Day Thread

Recommended Posts

Just said I'd start this thread so people can post about any u23/21 game they might be watching and thought it would be better to keep it all in the one thread don't think there's any point starting one for each individual match day.

Anyway u23s get there league campaign off to start tonight against West Brom and it's currently 3-0 to United at half time live on MUTV if anyone has any interest in watching, with 3 great goals and playing some great football without 3 of there best players. Goals from Ramazani Mellor and Garner.

Absolutely night and day compared to how they played last season and it's great to see them so well and with a lot more freedom and intensity under new manager Neil Wood. Should be a lot more enjoyable to watch this season even in games where we are missing the big names there is still plenty of talented players out there to watch like Laird O'Connor Wiilams Garner Levitt Puigmial

Finished 5-0 and the scoreline flatterd West Brom could and should of been more. Garner with another and Levitt with a penalty added to the 3 goals from the first half.

Best United performance at this level in years was great to watch. With everyone playing very very well but Garner the obvious stand out even without his two goals he was excellent

If Garner adds goals to his game, he really will be a Carrick and Scholes hybrid.

Ramazani is a quality little player when he’s in form. Very difficult to stop when he can dribble at from all angles.

Impressive win when you consider that Barlow, Chong, Gomes and Greenwood can all play at this level still.

United beat Newcastle 4-0 away at St.James Park tonight. Chong got two on his first start of the season with two decent finishes especially the first.

Garner also got another goal to take his tally to 4 goals in 3 games at this level this season hopefully a sign he's adding goals to his already impressive game.

Ramzanni got the other which again was a good run and finish. Watching the u23s is a pleasure right now and the difference is night and day from last season.

No Gomes or Greenwood in the squad again tonight so hopefully they both make the 18 tomorrow and not just Greenwood

Edit: 4 goals from tonight

Angel Gomes starting for the under 23s tonight at Old Trafford no Jimmy Garner who's with the first team and no Chong either. Team in full below.

Edit: Hoogewerf on the bench is a big show of faith considering he's a new signing and has only played a few games for the under 18s and is a first year scholar and only 16, even if we are light of numbers for strikers, obviously very highly rated by the club.

Gomes just scored a cracker, already ended one lads career with a piece of skill earlier too. Far far too good for this level

United already should be 2-0 up after a lovely bit of play including a no look back heel pass by Levitt before the first but was put wide by Elanga when it looked harder to miss than score

Edit: Gomes goal

I take it then that means gomes won't be in the squad for southampton.

Chong is ahead of him the pecking order. Chong, who isn't a PL prospect.

Give it up guys. It isn't happening.

Garner took his place instead.

16 year old Will Fish starts at centre back for the u23s tonight luckily he has a veteran alongside him in 17 year old Mengi 😬😂.

No Gomes Greenwood or Chong in the squad bit disappointed that Garner is and won't be with the first team tomorrow. Brandon Williams is also playing so likely to be Rojo and Young as full backs tomorrow unless AWB recovers in time 😬

Been Uniteds poorest performance at this level so far imo but Fish has done well so far.

live on mutv now for those interested

Edit: Finishes 1-0 United Levitt with the goal in the 85th minute after great play by Ramazani to set him up. Fish and Mengi were excellent at the back and both showed there class despite there young age. Williams was sent off in added time and then a minute or two later the ref gave as soft a penalty as can be but Kovar saved it to earn United the win and get him his 5th clean sheet in 5 games this season.

Short comp of 16 year old Will Fish debut the other night, like I said a very impressive performance by him didn't look out of place at all especially considering his center back partner was a 17 year old who only made his debut himself at this level a few weeks ago.

A very young United side beat Lincoins first team in the checkatrade trophy tonight 1-0 very impressive win against a good side.

Garner scored yet again. I mean there's adding goals to your game from midfield and then there's doing what he's doing this season so far. Scoring at a strikers rate while still dominating midfield.
