He's obviously insanely expensive (I think we'll really see a downturn in midtable -> top 6 transfers after AWB and Maguire's fees - no-one seems able to pry Zaha off Palace now), but improves our defence massively and has that vitally important Premier League experience.

 

In order to really profit off his ball-playing abilities, we need to be upgrading our midfield - we can afford to play further forward now with such a secure backline, and more attacking players in the middle of the park would be more than welcome.

 

Can Ole see this, and will the Glazers comply with further funding? Probably not, but a man can dream.

It's a shame we get so pent up with transfer fees being broken and cost etc as a fan it matters little to us as folks have said elsewhere at least it is being invested. The issue arises from the consistency of bad transfers not the cost. We like to feel that we were the best in the market as fans or were successful at a certain transfer, I'm not sure what trophies that wins? 

I'm not at all saying that we shouldn't have a better transfer system in place just that getting all pent up about the fee isn't really worth it. That's what we had to pay to get a proven player with appetite that statistically is only behind van dijk considering that pool wouldn't let him go for less than 160m I'd say Maguire is worth half that. 

If he can make a third of the impact of van dijk we will massively benefit considering the trash defence we've had. Additionally he's shown he can play 3 at the back well and with a 7 year contract he's not going anywhere let's be honest so that experience may benefit us under different regimes or tactics.

Rojo hasn't had a good competitive appearance for us since Jose's first season. He's the same age as Smalling, not as good as him & way more injury prone. Selling Chris before Rojo or Jones would be madness.

That's cobblers Marilyn.

He's as good as Smalldini and infinitely less injury prone than Jones.  Rocky has not been a huge defensive problem at United for the last 9 years where as the other two have.

It really isn't, Bastard. 

Jose's first year with us was the best we saw of Rojo, but the injury cut his season short and he hasn't been the same since. Smalling might be inconsistent & below par with the ball at his feet, but he's more likely to stay fit, he's a threat at set-pieces and he's capable of putting in great performances like PSG away for example.

It's not about who has been here the longest, it's about who we can rely on to cover Lindelof & Maguire if they go down injured. I have confidence in Smalling & Tuanzebe, can't say the same for Rojo & Jones.

Don't get me wrong 'O' man.  There's times I'm convinced I married a fuckin bloke.   But if I had his cash I'd be looking to raise the bar somewhat.   She's not exactly Carol Vorderman.

I was one of the biggest posters against the signing but that was quite the debut wasn't it, especially considering he has less then a weeks training with the lads. He looked so composed and solid back there and made a nice partnership with Victor. Made a nice change from seeing Smalling shit himself about having to make even a 5 yard pass and he seemed like a leader out there already so quick which will be huge if he becomes one because we're desperately short of them in the squad.

Just the start but if he keeps that level of performance up and he'll have me eating my words in no time and  I hope to fuck he does because if he does he could become a huge player for us for years to come, long may it continue
