2019/2020: PL Matchday 1 - Man Utd vs Chelsea

Recommended Posts

Great win, 4 goals and a clean sheet against a rival in the first game of the season, with all 3 new signings contributing big time to the win and our two young strikers who people questioned would they score enough getting 3 goals between them.

Sure we rode our luck a bit at times but fuck it who cares if you can't enjoy a game you win 4-0 against a rival football isn't for you.

Early days yet but that's a great way to start off and there was some great football played at times too and some cracking goals started. It's good to have it back

i was worried the huge fee might get into Maguire's head specially with this being his first game in united shirt but he showed his professionalism. AWB was amazing. James is a good signing.

but midfield is a big concern when we play against city and pool and tot

The main 2 things that worry me are;

1.) Chelsea managed to hit the target with 7 out of their 13 attempts (and hit the post twice)

2.) How much we rely on counter attacks to create (will be an issue if we concede 1st or face a low block).

But happy that we do look effective on the counter attack and that we basically converted the majority of our chances.

Another creative CM to help Pogba really would have been perfect. Gomes is here, but needs the opportunity.

This is huge, we really should be putting most of the lower league teams to the sword but they'll be lining up 10 behind the ball from the get-go - how will our new look team fare against that?

Hopefully Gomes can force himself into the team this season, far too good for reserve football and with less than a year left on his contract, Barcelona will be sniffing around. He loves the club, but the club needs to show him that they're willing to let talented players have their chance.

It'll be interesting in that palace game as they will do that

A lot of teams including wolves will have a good go at us as we've lost that fear factor - so we are suited for those games already, will we have the guile to break down those well organised palace teams ?

Time will tell

James will be huge for us in bigger games - that pace on the counter is sensational, especially with Pogba's passing range.

Against the smaller teams - do we have the creativity to break them down? We certainly have the  backline to eke out 1-0 victories, but we can be very flat up front against a team with 10 behind the ball.

Wolves only had 30% possession away to Leicester. They do like a counter attack.
