Manchester United 0 Southampton 1

A solitary strike by the Saints was enough to dismantle United even though we dominated most of the match and deserved an equaliser.

United fielded a line up including with Gomes, Chong and Greenwood all starting.

Southampton now top the table with 33 points with United now 8 points off the pace.

Greenwood is incredible for his age. Like a two footed Mbappé. Really hope he makes it at the top.  He's too good for U18s football at 16.

Manchester United 1 Reading 0 United hit top stop as they beat leaders Reading away with a solitary Angel Gomes penalty midway through the second half. Gomes, Chong and Bohui all started in

Chong and Gomes  both scored tonight in the U23 League v Fulham. Ended 2-2

Manchester United 1 Stoke City 3

Another defeat that's 3 on the spin for Sbragia's boys. He did have to contend with a couple of players that had already played the previous day for the U18's so the squad was stretched.

Stoke took a 2 goal lead and although Mellor gave some hope Stoke extended their lead late on.

This leaves United in 6th  now 11 points off leaders Southampton.

Manchester United 1 Norwich City 2

United suffered another loss but this now to be expected as players like Gomes, Chong and Garner get drafted into the first team.

Bohui put us ahead in the first half but two second half goals for the visitors.

I would give Bohui a chance in the first team.

Manchester United 1 Sunderland 1

Another sub-standard performance as United were thwarted by a late equaliser.

Sunderland had the worst record over the last 10 games other than United but still managed to snatch a point.

Uniteds youngsters have been depleted of late but should have overcome Sunderland. Largie Ramizani bagged his first goal of the season for United. Levitt and Galbraith looked impressive and could be the next lads to be drafted in first team action maybe next season

United with no wins in 6 with 5 losses are now 6points of the play-offs with only 4 games remaining.

There are some that want Sbragia's head and whispers for Joyce to be reintroduced. It's been a shite run depleted or not.

Manchester United 1 West Bromwich Albion 1

Back to back draws for Sbragia's boys which almost seals their promotion chances.

A very strong United line up which including Rojo, Pereira, Chong, Gomes and Greenwood failed to impress at a match being played at Old Trafford for a change

Burkart opened the scoring only for Albion to restore equality midway through the 2nd half.

Thats no win in 10 for United so it's been a bad end to what promised to be a promising season. Sbragia needs to look at himself here as something is clearly missing especially with the quality of players he has.

Manchester United 5 Newcastle United 0

Hahaha after a truly shite run Sbragia's lads return to form with a 5 nil thumping of The Toon!!

Our Swiss lad Nishan Burkart was the star of the show scoring a brace with Chong and Greenwood also chipping in together with an O.G. We have a formidable line up there in the forward positions with Chong, Burkart, Gomes Greenwood, Barlow and Bohui all pushing for first team starts. Could be Solskjaers Starlets after the Busby Babes and Fergies Fledglings!! ?

Burkart in any case has to be pushing for first team action next season surely he has outshone Chong and Gomes of late.

So United cement 6th place and can't finish any higher.

United finish the Premier League 2 season with a game against Wolves at Leigh Sports Village on Friday 26 April, with free entry for all.

I'm getting a little concerned about our quality youth players.   I was hoping they would have had a lot more first team game time  than what they've had.     City had no hesitation throwing 18 year old Foden yesterday in such an important game.  Yet Chong who's 20 cant get a look in at United.   Maybe Ole is looking to unleash them next season, especially if Lukheskey and Sanchez are fucked off which is very likely.     Its looking increasingly unlikely we will be in the champions league next season. If that's the case then our youth players should be given a shot in the Euro Disney vase.

Manchester United 2 Wolverhampton Wanders 3

So United finish the season with a disappointing result. 2-0 up with 10 minutes to go through goals by Greenwood and Gomes (P) seemed like United were going to finish on a high only for Wolves to score 3 late goals the winner in the 91st minute ruined the day

It would have been a encouraging if Sbragia's boys had beaten the league leaders but in keeping with the first team it seems the nerves have filtered through to the youngsters.

United finish in 6th position and Sbragia needs to go imo. Horrible finish culminating in 7 losses out of 9 (hmmmm familiar pattern that ?) after such a positive start to the season.

Positives Barlow, Greenwood, Gomes, Bohui, Tanner and Burkart for me.

A few of these lads should be involved in the last 2 Premiership games what has Solskjaer got to lose?

Thanks for reading my reports during the season.

Sbragia gone.

They say mutual consent that's just a cute way of saying go or you'll be sacked. Warren Joyce touted about rejoining United.

Absolute disastrous season taking  everything into context winning only 8 games all season mirroring the first teams fortunes in the last few months.

We do have some have exciring talent who should be involved in and around the first team next season but I dont think Sbragia helped the progress of the youngsters.

Also throwing a curved ball in as good as these youngsters are they still contributed to this terrible season so although we're willing them on to do well some are clearly not ready for first team action. We can get carried away by isolated performances sometimes.

Manchester United need to take a risk with Largie Ramazani

It has been a season of two halves for promising Manchester United youngster Largie Ramazani.

The 19-year-old was prolific for the under-23s in 2019, scoring nine goals n 13 games.

Ramazani’s success was a pleasant surprise. His progress was faster than anticipated and led to legitimate questions as to whether he should get a first team chance, beyond the brief cameo away at Astana in November.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer shot this down in January, suggesting it was too soon [Metro], and the young Belgian forward has not been able to make the same impact in 2020, in a campaign where there has been very little under-23 football.

Contract stand-off

There are currently doubts as to whether Ramazani has a long term future at Old Trafford.

The teenager is under contract until 2021, but there have been reports claiming Ramazani is so far unwilling to commit beyond that [source: Belgian outlet DH].

This leaves United with a decision to make over Ramazani – and that’s why the club should take a risk

Fast-track loan

One of the criticism of United’s youth system in recent years has been poor handling of the loan system, and a reluctance to send young players out.

Axel Tuanzebe is a player who benefitted last season, but this year youngsters Angel Gomes, Dylan Levitt, Matej Kovar and James Garner are among those who could have benefitted from loan spells.

United need to take a risk with Ramazani and send him out on loan next season, to the Championship, or abroad to a top flight in Holland or Germany.

If he feels he is ready to play competitive football and would be held back in the under-23s, then United need to say, ‘prove it’.

It will be sink or swim for Ramazani, and he might get a tough reality check.

On the other hand if he passes the test and becomes a regular goalscorer from the wing for his loan side, then he will build a case for more first team chances at United in the process.

As condition for a loan going through, United should insist on a minimum of a one year extension, to prevent losing him on a free next summer, with a small pay rise to reward for strong progress this season.

Opposed to just giving him another year in the under-23s, and ‘hoping’ he signs a new deal, with a possible loan the year after, United need to take a risk, and give Ramazani the wings to fly. If not, he may just walk out the door next summer

This season he has made a very impressive leap forward, and if provided with the right situation, he can do so again next season.

Butt says decisions already made to release players, loans more uncertain

Nicky Butt has told the club website that decisions have already been made to release players this summer.

He said that these decisions were already made before Manchester United’s season came to a halt.

The head of first team development commented: “I think the decisions are all made. I think they’re usually made by February-March usually, the release and retention side of it.”

Last summer United released 10 youth players including once promising striker James Wilson and midfielder Callum Gribbin.

A recent report in the MEN stated Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Demetri Mitchell are in line to be released this summer.

It wouldn’t be a surprise in the case of either player. Both have lost momentum in their once promising careers and need fresh starts.

Loan moves more tricky to plan

Butt said that one aspect of future planning which has been impacted by the halt to the season is loan moves.

He stated that this is the time where planning would begin on these moves for a select group of young players.

He commented: “Loans it starts now, March-April for the July loans. You’re pretty much lost as to what you’re going to do and who’s going to be able to take players, who is not going to take players. You’ve just got to keep to your plan and stick to your guns.

“If, for instance, three or four lads have been planned to go out on loan, they’ve got to go out on loan, but you’ve got to find the right club for them, the right manager, the right way of playing.

“There are loads of things you’ve got to do, which makes it even more difficult at this time, but everyone’s in the same boat. Every football team in the world is in the same boat and, trust me, they’re a lot more worse off than Man United.”

In the short-term, its clearly more tricky to plan loan moves, when it’s unclear when next season will even start, and whether there is even a pre-season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may want to keep players like James Garner around, dependent on what happens with the club’s pursuit of transfer targets this summer.

In theory, there will be more opportunities for United’s young players this summer if clubs have less money.

This will make teams lower down the football ladder more desperate for loan ‘handouts’ from Premier League teams, but United have to make the right moves for the players.

Another element to factor in in which division United’s under-23 side will be playing in next season.

United were hoping to win promotion from the Premier League 2 second division, just three points off top spot, and strong contenders to win a play-off tournament if finishing second.

If United are denied promotion, then more players could be loaned for a fresh challenge, while if they go up, the club will want to ensure a strong squad is available to compete.

Teden Mengi deserves to replace Phil Jones in Manchester United squad

Manchester United have a lot of centre-backs. So many, in fact, that Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo were sent on loan this season.

In truth, Phil Jones should have been the first out the door. Instead, while Smalling excelled at Roma, the 28-year-old managed just eight United appearances in all competitions.

A lot has happened since Jones signed for United for £17million (BBC). In those 10 years, he has only shown glimpses of the raw talent that prompted such an outlay. And the time has surely come for a new challenge elsewhere.

While Jones has not started much under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he has often been on the bench. That position should now be given to a youngster with the world at his feet.

While much has been made of Axel Tuanzebe’s talent, less has been said about an equally impressive centre-back. Teden Mengi is only 18 but he is making considerable waves at United.

In fact, United under-23 boss Neil Wood thinks Mengi could be the next to break through.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Wood said, ‘Teden has been fantastic. The goal is to try to get him pushed up into that first-team if we can.”

Under Solskjaer, that is a very distinct possibility. After all, few outside Old Trafford had heard of Brandon Williams this time last year and now he is a United regular.

Jones has been in a United match-day squad 24 times so far this season. Next time round, Mengi deserves his shot.

Tuanzebe will feature more having returned from injury but Mengi should leapfrog Jones in the pecking order. To overlook such a talent in favour of a man whose time as a United star has passed would be foolish in the extreme.

After youngster Jacob Carney signed new deal, another loan should await

Young goalkeeper Jacob Carney announced on social media last month that he has signed a new contract with Manchester United.

Carney is one of several young goalkeepers on United’s books, and he faces a tough task to stand out – when ultimately there is just one first team spot up for grabs. Time is on Carney’s side.

At just 17, he has already trained with United’s first team, flying out to make up the numbers on the squad’s February training camp in Marbella.

Outside of that, Carney has been on loan, with non-league club Stocksbridge Steels.

This has been an invaluable experience for Carney, 17, to get used to playing ‘men’s football’ early on.

United have so many young goalkeepers that not all of them can feature for the under-18s and under-23s regularly, and loans make sense.

Carry on

For United and Carney, it is mutually valuable for another loan move to be arranged next season.

Carney has a head start on his young peers thanks to this loan. It is important United capitalise on this.

It will be interesting to compare how Carney’s game develops with continuous loan spells, in non-league and the Football League, in comparison to his academy teammates who are staying at Carrington.

Now United could look to keep Carney put and spend more time working with him closely over the next 12 months.

If that’s the decision which is made then we will certainly trust the coaching staff’s choice.

But there is a real opportunity here to really shape Carney into a young goalkeeper who is ready for the professional game and set himself up for a long career.

It has taken Dean Henderson many years of loans to reach the Premier League.

His first was in 2016 at Stockport County, when he was 19.

Carney already has a headstart, with his first loan spell coming at two years younger.

In a few years time when De Gea is gone, Carney could be putting pressure on Henderson for United’s number one shirt.
